Reading reviews on the Internet, it is easy to find quite a few complaints about artificial sinks. We’ve rounded up four of the most popular complaints and concerns that lead many to opt for the good old, proven stainless steel kitchen sinks.
No. 1 Myth: “Drain boiling water may crack the sink, and you should not put hot dishes on the surface of the stone.”
Truth: Granite sinks are not afraid of stains (if they appear, they can be easily cleaned with ordinary detergents and a sponge), nor hot objects.
No. 2 Myth: “If you accidentally drop a heavy dish, the sink may crack, chip or crack”
Truth: If a sink made of granite or quartz is cracked, chipped, stains remain – the reason may be a manufacturing defect, or you have come across a fake (how to avoid deception, read below).
No. 3 Myth: “Stains appear on a stone sink over time. On a light sink – dark ones (from coffee, tea, red wine, beets, juice, etc.), on a dark one – light ones (they accidentally put something hot) ”
Truth: Imitation granite sinks are stain resistant.
No. 4 Myth: “Such a sink requires daily maintenance, and you will only do what to clean it”
Truth: Any sink requires careful and regular maintenance. The fact that stainless steel will look perfect in itself is just a myth.
Stone sinks have beautiful colors and textures (you can choose exactly the color of the countertop) and stylish design, they look nobler than steel and will harmoniously fit into the interior of any kitchen. Especially if it is a modern classic, country or Provence.
Compared to stainless steel, such sinks are absolutely silent – you will not be annoyed by the noise of water and the clanging of cutlery on a steel surface.
They are deeper than stamped steel sinks.
Streaks and splashes on the surface of the stone are practically invisible, while every drop is visible on the metal.
Nice to the touch.
Round sinks made of artificial stone are a great option for a small kitchen
European made granite and quartz sinks can withstand temperatures up to 280 degrees, Russian sinks – up to 180 degrees. Compare: a baking sheet just removed from the oven is at about 230 degrees.
A high-quality granite sink is very difficult to break or scratch under normal living conditions.
There are no pores on the surface of the artificial stone, so dirt and odors are not absorbed into it.
Artificial granite and quartz will not fade over time.
High-quality composite material is absolutely environmentally friendly and safe.
Any sink requires careful and regular maintenance. The fact that stainless steel will look perfect in itself is just a myth.
The 4 main rules that will extend the life of any, even the most inexpensive and capricious car wash, are very simple:
start caring for the sink immediately from the moment of purchase, then it will look like new for a long time
after use, rinse the walls and bottom of the sink well, ideally wipe the surface dry with a napkin
place pots or trays on a special cork or metal rack
Before pouring boiling water into the sink, turn on the cold water tap.
The ideal companion for sinks and artificial stone countertops is the faucet in the same color. But keep in mind: sometimes the color of the mixer and sink may differ from each other by 1-2 tones. Manufacturers do not consider this a defect and explain it by the difference in production technologies: sinks are made solid, and the mixer coating (moisture-resistant powder enamel) is applied by spraying.
When choosing a sink made of artificial stone, it is important not to run into a fake. In construction markets and in dubious shops, one can find counterfeit products not only of European brands, but also of relatively inexpensive Russian brands.
“Craftsmen” play on the desire of buyers to buy an expensive sink cheaper, stamping “clones”, only externally similar to the original, and not observing the necessary technical conditions. By purchasing a fake car wash, you will not be able to use the warranty in the event of a problem. The most common of these are cracks, leaking seams, deformation of the bowl, or falling off the bottom.
If you have any doubts, do not be too lazy to contact the manufacturer (contact information can be found on the official website) or its major dealer.
TRUTH: The outstanding feature of acrylic is that it is easy to repair. If it is a scratch or dent, then the place of damage is sanded and polished. In case of serious damage, a specialist fills the area with liquid acrylic, grinds and polishes. There are no traces of repair.
TRUTH: Acrylic itself is a fairly durable material, in addition, during the manufacture of acrylic bathtubs, they are reinforced with special materials that give the bathtub sufficient stability and rigidity.
TRUTH: The main noise when drawing water into the bathroom comes from the mixer, not the bathtub. The sound of falling water in the bathroom itself is heard only in the first minutes, and a stream of water, falling into the already collected water, makes the same noise in the bathroom from any material. Moreover, acrylic perfectly absorbs sound, water is poured into a bath made from it, almost noiselessly!
TRUTH: Acrylic has low thermal conductivity, taking on ambient temperature, that is, it is initially warmer than cast iron or steel counterparts. A bath filled with water cools down very slowly: by 1 degree for 30 minutes. Thanks to these properties, acrylic baths are used in spas and water spas.
TRUE: Acrylic has a very dense molecular structure and, as a result, does not absorb dirt and rust. Any liquid cleaning agent can be used to maintain hygiene. The surface is very smooth, so even a simple rinse of the bath is sufficient for cleaning. The only thing that is prohibited is the use of chemical solvents and abrasive powders.
TRUTH: In fact, acrylic bathtubs do not weigh much. This does not mean that the bathtub is unstable. Thanks to this, transportation and installation is much easier than cast iron or steel counterparts. Using original frames or legs, professional installation, the bathtub is almost impossible to tip over.
It should be noted that the surface of an acrylic bathtub requires more careful maintenance and therefore you should familiarize yourself with a number of rules for caring for this material. By following the basic care rules, you will be able to prolong the flawless appearance of your bath.
Acrylic is a durable material. Its surface has a dirt-repellent effect, so that microorganisms do not develop on it. In addition, the acrylic bathroom is not afraid of blows, but at the same time it is easily scratched.
The main thing is to be careful and careful when washing an acrylic bath. It is not recommended to use powdery and abrasive products as a detergent, as well as a paste containing chlorine, acid, alkali, and ammonia. Such substances contribute to the appearance of scratches on the surface and also lead to a loss of natural color. Before you start cleaning your acrylic bathtub, always carefully read the composition of the cleaning agent you are using. Do not use metal or hard brushes – such brushes will damage the integrity of the acrylic coating.
It is also not recommended to bathe your pets in an acrylic bathtub, put metal basins and buckets in them. Never put various objects in the bath – stools, metal basins and objects, as well as any other household utensils.
To properly care for your acrylic bathtub, you must use a cleansing liquid as a cleanser. A dishwashing compound, liquid soap, shower gel, etc. is perfect for this purpose.
If you find lime streaks on the surface of the bath, then it is not necessary to wash the entire container completely. It is enough to take a soft cloth, soak it in lemon juice or table vinegar and wipe the surface.
If you notice that some parts of the bath surface begin to darken, then it is enough to rinse the container with running water and wipe it with a dry and soft cloth.
If there are small scratches in the acrylic bathtub, then its surface can be treated with a polishing material, in particular it can be ordinary mastic. Very often they practice furniture polish or car polish for this purpose.
Special products intended for cleaning the acrylic surface are applied to a napkin and only then to the bath surface. The entire surface of the container is wiped with a napkin and left for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the product should be washed off well with warm water and wiped dry with a cloth.
To get rid of the appearance of rust qualitatively, it is recommended to use products that are designed to fight rust from acrylic surfaces.
In any case, when choosing a cleaner for acrylic bathtubs, always give preference to special products. Such products will allow not only to gently clean the surface, but also give it shine and protection, in the form of a thin waterproof film.
